Amazon Has Added 50 Million Prime Subscribers to Hit New Milestone

Amazon Prime is the service that does it all: one-day shipping, video streaming, ebook rentals, and more. It now has over 200 million subscribers worldwide.

200 Million People Subscribe to Amazon Prime

In Jeff Bezos' 2020 Letter to Shareholders, the Amazon CEO announced that the company now has over 200 million active Prime members worldwide.

50 million of those subscribers joined in the last year, which suggests the COVID-19 pandemic has been a key driver in getting people on board.

This was Jeff Bezos' last letter as CEO, since he steps down later this year to make way for Andy Jassy. However, Bezos will remain as an executive chairman on the board.

Bezos also drew attention to the fact that Amazon made $21.3 billion net profit in 2020.

However, not all is good at Amazon. As a result of the recent unionization attempt in Alabama, along with the general negative press at how the company treats its employees, Bezos writes that "we need to do a better job for our employees".

However, he goes on to claim that news reports are exaggerated and "94% [of employees] they would recommend Amazon to a friend as a place to work".

Whatever the case, it's clear that Amazon's position as internet and shopping giant isn't about to be rocked any time soon.
