Spotify Premium Family Is Getting More Expensive
Spotify is raising the subscription fees for its Family plan in the US. The company has already announced a price hike for all its plans in the EU and UK.
For now, Spotify has only announced a price hike for the Premium Family plan in the US.
Only Spotify's Family Plan Is Getting a Price Hike in the US
Starting April 30, the Spotify Premium Family plan will be getting expensive by $1. The plan is currently priced at $14.99, but starting April 30, it will cost $15.99. A Spotify Premium Family plan can be shared across six people living under one roof, so the hike is not too much when the price is divided among six people.
Additionally, Spotify's Family plan offers parental controls, which include the ability to filter explicit content. This will allow parents to control whether their kids can play songs containing explicit lyrics or not.
If you are already an existing subscriber of Spotify's Premium Family plan, you will get one additional billing month at the existing rate. This means the price hike will be applicable from June for existing paying subscribers. Existing users on a one-month free trial of Spotify's Family plan will also be billed at the existing rate for the first month.
Spotify Hikes Prices to Offer "Unparalleled Service"
Spotify confirmed the price hike in a statement to Cnet, saying it is doing so to meet market demand.
We offer a variety of subscription plans tailored to our users' needs, and we occasionally update our prices to reflect local macroeconomic factors and meet market demands while offering an unparalleled service.
So far, Spotify has not announced if it will be hiking the subscription fees of its other plans in the US or not. In the UK and EU, Spotify has increased the subscription charges for all its plans, with the Family plan getting the biggest price increase.
The price hike from Spotify comes ahead of it possibly launching Podcast Subscriptions to rival Apple Podcasts.
Spotify is the biggest music streaming service in the world, with over 160 million subscribers. Apart from various paid plans, Spotify also has a free ad-supported tier that lets one listen to music and podcasts for free, though with certain restrictions.
Spotify hiking its subscription fees has not really gone down too well with its existing subscribers, especially in the EU and UK, where certain plans have become expensive by as much as 20%.
