Spotify Revamps Its Podcast Charts to Aid Discovery and Shareability
Spotify now has over 2.2 million podcast episodes to choose from, so there's plenty to keep your ears entertained for the rest of your life.
To help you discover new podcasts and share your favorites, Spotify has revamped its podcast charts to offer more detail and launched a web experience.
What Are the New Spotify Podcast Charts?
While Spotify originally began as a music streaming service, it understands that podcasts are here to stay. That's why the company is investing millions into creators, along with podcast distribution and advertising platforms.
Back in July 2020, Spotify introduced podcast charts so that you could see what everyone was listening to in your country.
Now, as announced on For the Record, Spotify has updated its podcast charts to make them more detailed, along with introducing a web experience with "highly shareable features".
The Top Podcasts chart is where you can see all the most popular shows. This is calculated by combining the overall follower counts and the number of recent unique listens.
The exact formula hasn't been revealed, but Spotify promises that this chart is where you'll find shows that fans have been enjoying for some time, alongside rising newcomers.
There's also the Top Episodes chart, which is where you'll find the most popular podcast episodes that people are listening to that day, calculated by the unique listener count.
These charts can be accessed by going to the Browse section of Spotify, then Podcasts > Podcast Charts.
Spotify Launches Podcast Charts on the Web
Previously, the Spotify podcast chart was only accessible through the program and app. Now, there's a dedicated website that anyone can access called The Podcast Charts.
Currently, this site only tracks the US charts (Spotify says it's "exploring additional markets"), but you can view it from any country.
You can use the dropdown at the top of the page to filter the podcast category, like comedy or history, or you can just view the overall top 100.
Click a podcast to find out more about it, listen to a preview, follow the show, and create a share card.
The share card is much like the Spotify music promo cards introduced in October 2020—a colorful visual that you can quickly share to social media to promote your favorite podcast and its position in the charts.
Discover New Podcasts
Using Spotify's new and improved charts, it's now even easier to discover great podcasts. Your never have to go without a podcast ever again.
