Eve Energy Smart Plug With HomeKit and Thread Support Launched

The fourth-generation Eve Energy Smart Plug with Thread integration is now on sale. The smart plug can turn any appliance into a smart one in your home, allowing you to control it from your phone or your voice.

Like all other Eve smart home products, the Eve Energy Smart Plug also features HomeKit integration.

Eve Energy Smart Plug Can Act as a Thread Router

Compared to the third-generation Eve Energy Smart Plug, the latest model only features one major change: Thread support. Eve first announced the new Eve Energy Smart Plug and a weather station with Thread support back in March.

Since the Eve Energy Smart Plug is always connected to a power source, it can act as a router node in the Thread network. This means it can allow other Thread-compatible devices on your network to connect to the internet.

Eve recently launched the world's first Thread-enabled Light Switch.

Apart from Thread, the smart plug also features Bluetooth connectivity. During the pairing process, if the Energy Smart Plug finds a Thread-compatible router in its proximity like the HomePod mini, the new Apple TV 4K, or the second-gen Google Nest Hub, it will automatically switch to Thread for communication purposes.

This will offer a better end-user experience as Thread has lower latency and better coverage. If the smart plug does not detect any Thread devices nearby, it will fall back on Bluetooth for communication purposes.

Since the Eve Energy Smart Plug features HomeKit support, you can control it through your voice using Siri. Alternatively, you will also be able to use the Home app on your iPhone or iPad to control the smart plug.

Using the Eve app, you can get an overview of the power currently being consumed, the projected cost, and more. You can also get a history of the power usage and an estimated annual cost of powering that specific application based on its power consumption figure. The app also lets you set up autonomous schedules, which can run even when the smart plug is not connected to your iPhone or the home hub.
