Eve Launches the World’s First Thread-Enabled Light Switch

Eve has released an updated version of the Eve Switch with Thread support. This is the first Thread-compatible smart switch to hit the market.

Eve has been at the forefront of adopting Thread support across its lineup. The company recently announced an updated smart plug and weather station with Thread support.

Eve Light Switch Now Comes With Thread Support

The Eve Light Switch (2nd generation) supports both Bluetooth and Thread. Since the switch gets a constant supply to power, it also acts as a router node allowing other Thread accessories in your home to connect to the internet.

Since the Eve Switch also supports HomeKit, you can control it using the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. Alternatively, you can also use Siri to turn the switch on or off. For additional functionality, you can set up HomeKit automation to automatically switch on the lights after sunset and then turn them off again after sunrise.

If you don't have a Thread border router in your home like the HomePod mini or the new Google Nest Hub, you can still control the Eve Light Switch using Bluetooth. While this will reduce the load on your Wi-Fi network, the device will take slightly longer to respond.

The updated Eve Switch has been designed for the EU markets, so it has the standard size of 85 x 85 x 41mm. You can use the Eve Light Switch individually or mix it with conventional switches that can fit into 55mm frames.

An important thing to keep in mind is that the switch requires a neutral wire to work. It is also not compatible with existing switch plates, and you must use the switch plate that comes bundled with the switch. A single pack of the 2nd generation Eve Light Switch is available in the EU for 99.95€, with shipping charges extra. You can order it from Eve's online store or Amazon.

There was no word from Eve on when a US version of the switch will be launched.
