Google Is Killing Its Mobile Shopping App for Android and iOS

Don't worry, shopaholics. If you're partial to Google's personalized shopping experience, you can catch a sigh of relief. Google Shopping as a whole isn't shutting down—just its mobile app. You're going to have to swap use the site instead (which thankfully doesn't feel much different anyway).

Google Says Goodbye to Its Shopping Mobile App

On Friday, 9to5 Google reported that users were receiving a "Something went wrong" message on the Google Shopping mobile app. Later, a Google spokesperson confirmed to the news site that it was ending support for its Shopping app on iOS and Android.

The spokesperson also explained that the Shopping app will work through June, so presumably it'll will stop working after that. Luckily, all the app's functionalities are available on the Google Shopping website, so you shouldn't miss the app too much.

Google killing its Shopping app doesn't come as a surprise to some. Earlier that same day, XDA Development found some pretty conclusive evidence that Google planned to retire—or rather, sunset—the app:

We’ve discovered strings and code in version 59 of the Shopping app that hints the app’s days are numbered. The names of each of the following strings are prefaced with "sunset", which led us to believe that these messages will be shown on a page informing the user that the app is no longer available.
