How to Control Notifications in the PlayStation Mobile App

With the launch of the PlayStation 5 in late 2020, Sony revamped the PlayStation App for Android and iPhone to add new features and move some elements around. This update included several new notification options, which you might not want to receive.

Below, we explain how to manage the notifications that you get from the PlayStation App on your phone.

How to Access the Notification Menu in the PlayStation App

Open the PlayStation App on your phone, signing in if needed. With the Play tab (which looks like a controller) selected at the bottom of the screen, you'll see a Gear icon at the top-right. Tap this to open the Settings menu.

From there, tap Push Notifications under the PlayStation App heading to access the relevant options. While these screenshots show the iOS version, the interface and options are the same on Android.

How to Change Notification Settings in the PlayStation App

In this menu, you'll be able to disable any alerts that you don't want to get on your phone. Let's go through each section and explain what they do.

Gaming

Disable Game Invites if you don't want notifications for when other players ask you to join a match. From Games, meanwhile, includes any alerts that an individual title might send. For example, you may get an alert that someone has beaten your high score in a challenge.

Open the When Friends Go Online section, and you can choose to get a notification when certain friends log into PlayStation Network. Use the slider to toggle this for each person individually, or disable Allow Notifications if you want to turn off all online friend alerts.

Friend Requests and Messages are self-explanatory. Now that functionality from the old PS Messages app has been merged into the main PlayStation App, you can message your friends without using a separate utility.

Media

There's just one entry under this heading: Downloads. Enable this, and the app will let you know when a game you've downloaded to your PS5 is ready to play.

Accounts and Offers

The last section has a couple of alerts you might not find as useful. Wishlist Updates will ping you when any title on your wishlist comes on sale—we've looked at the best game price alert websites if you'd like a more flexible solution.

From PlayStation includes any general alerts, such as major sales. Finally, Sign-in Authorization will ping you when you need to enter a code from your phone to sign into your PlayStation account.

Stay Current With PlayStation Notifications

Now you know how to control which pings you see from the PlayStation App to make it the best possible experience. While you can always disable notifications for an app entirely at the OS level, that will hide useful alerts along with the annoying ones.
